And she is definitely letting everyone know what she’s worth in the music industry!
Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Katy Perry has reached stardom as a singer of some of the most popular songs of the last two years. And who would think, the daughter of Christian pastor parents and whose first album in 2001 (Katy Hudson) was gospel would turn out to be one of America’s sexiest vixens in the music industry?!
Without a doubt the first song that comes to mind when one thinks of Katy is “I Kissed a Girl”, and you know you liked it… hehe… released in 2008 and which granted a position at the top of charts worldwide. Her album One of the Boys became the 33rd bestselling album worldwide in 2008. Not too bad for a gospel singer turn pop goddess!
Her album titled Teenage Dream soon followed in August of 2010, debuting at the top position of the Billboard 200. In this album you will find the songs “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream” and “Firework” all of which also topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. So it should come as no surprise that she is nominated for the 2011 Grammy Awards in the following categories:
1. Album of the Year (Teenage Dream)
2. Best Pop Vocal Album (Teenage Dream)
3. Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (“Teenage Dream”)
4. Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals (“California Gurls” w/ Snoop Dogg)
Though she was nominated in 2009 and 2010 and did not win… something tells me this may be Katy’s year. Her style is unique, fun and quite catchy! How many times have you caught yourself singing one of her tunes? For me it’s a lot more than once : )
In her personal life, Katy married Russell Brand in October 2010 in quite an amazing ceremony in India at the same location where he proposed in 2009. The couple met after Katy filmed a cameo in Russell’s movie Get Him To The Greek.
You will soon be able to enjoy Katy as the voice of the beloved Smurfette in the movie The Smurfs, out this year.
Currently Katy is getting ready to set up a very extensive world tour on February 20th in Portugal, appropriately titled California Dreams Tour. Below are the dates for the North America Leg of the tour. Do not miss it! It is sure to be a fun
