Cabas

Cabas (Andrés Mauricio Cabas Rosales ) was born on October 7, 1976, in Barranquilla, Colombia.  At the age of 5, Cabas' father, Eduardo, also a musician, and composer taught him music. By age 6, Cabas formally studied piano and became skilled at this and various other instruments, including percussion.

During his teenage years in Bogota, Cabas had a taste for classical music, rock, and roll, electronic, and also for Cumbia, and Fandango, from his native country. His music teacher from Colegio San Carlos, Helbert Ballestas, helped Cabas to develop the idea of fusing Colombian music with rock music.
As an adult, Cabas went to Paris, and New York. While in New York nightclubs, he met prominent figures of jazz and salsa, inspiring him to write and compose music. Cabas felt alienated, and depressed while in NY. In 2000, he wrote a self titled album that became a huge success in Columbia. The song titled Mi Bombon topped the charts for three months, earning him a Gold Disc and a double Platinum Disc.
