Paulina Rubio is a very beautiful and popular Mexican singer who reached stardom in 2000 with her fifth album named Paulina which sold over 21 million copies. She began her career in a children’s pop group named Timbiriche in 1982 at the young age of 11. She also starred in Spanish soap operas at the same time that she was in the band. She left Timbiriche in 1991 and began her solo career. She released her first album La Chica Dorada (The Golden Girl) which has become her trademark nickname. She sold almost 3 million copies and many of her songs topped the charts. In 1992 she released 24 Kilates (24 Carats), followed by El Tiempo Es Oro (Time is Golden), and Planeta Paulina in 1996. Paulina decided to take time off and moved to Spain where she did a little bit of everything.
Paulina came back strong in 1999 and in just one year she climbed to the top of the charts and there was no stopping her. That year, Paulina was nominated three times at the second annual Latin Grammy Awards for “Album of the Year, “Song of the Year”, and “Best Female Pop Vocal Album”. She won multiple awards and her album was number one on Billboard’s “Top Latin Albums” chart, as well as the highest selling Latin Album by 2001. More amazing albums followed such as ‘Border Girl” in 2002, “Pau-Latina” in 2004, “Ananda” in 2006, “Gran City Pop” this past year. The success of this album, Gran City Pop, was huge and Paulina won an MTV Latin-American Award for best solo artist, and best live performance. Gran City Pop received a Grammy nomination at the 52nd Grammy Awards for "Best Latin Pop Album". Paulina also participated in the Spanish version of “We Are The World”, (Somos el Mundo) a charity event for the people in Haiti.
Paulina has been in the spotlight since she was a little girl as she is the daughter of a very famous Mexican actress named Susana Dosamantes. She has lived a very fun and exciting life and in 2007 she married Spanish public relations executive Nicolás "Colate" Vallejo. Together they formed a family and their son was born in November 2010. She took off a little time to be with her newborn and unfortunately during this time her dad passed away from kidney failure. Paulina was very closed to her dad and this was a very tragic moment in her life.
Paulina is a well rounded person because not only is she a great singer but she also has her own lipstick line through M.A.C named “Rubia” which means blonde, her own perfume “Oro” which means gold and the very busy Golden girl also owns a restaurant in Miami named L’Entrecote de Paris. And if this wasn’t enough the gorgeous blonde goddess has ventured out into modeling for very famous designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Ina Soltani, Prada, Gucci, "Dolce & Gabbana", and Alexander McQueen, just to mention a few. Paulina also has a very big heart and she donates her time to many organizations like the Latino Commission on AIDS, the American Heart Association, and the Lili Claire Foundation which built a family resource center.
Paulina is nominated for this year’s Premio Lo Nuestro, which will take place on February 17th in Miami. She is nominated for ‘Female Artist of the Year” and running against Kany Garcia, Nelly Furtado, Shakira, and Thalia. Who will be the winner, we have to wait and see!
