Ricardo Montaner

 
Ricardo Montaner was born on September 8, 1957 in Valentin Alsina, Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he was 6 years old, he and his family moved to Venezuela.

Ricardo began performing in the church choir at a young age.

His first international song was "Canta Viejo Canta". He performed this song in Peru.
In 1978, he recorded his first LP "Mares" ("Seas"). From 1968 - 1984 Ricardo participated at the Ancon Festival (a Peruvian music festival) which he gained some popularity after performing his song "Murallas" ("Walls").

In 1983, Ricardo released his first album titled "Cada Día" ("Every Day"). Although the album was not a great success, it was a start for Montaner's career. He describes this album as "his own version of death metal"
In 1987, Ricardo Montaner became widely popular in Venezuela with the singles "Yo Que Te Amé" ("I who loves you") and "Vamos a Dejarlo" ("We Leave") which were from his self-titled album.
In 1988, he released Ricardo Montaner 2, which featured hit songs like "Tan Enamorados" ("So in Love" ) and "A Donde Va El Amor". ("Where is the Love?") At the same time, he acted in the popular telenovela (soap opera) Niña Bonita. (Pretty Little Girl) This helped his songs become known to the rest of Latin America.
Ricardo won 4 platinum albums in Argentina alone. His next two albums, "Un Toque de Misterio" ("A Touch of Mystery") and "En el Último Lugar del Mundo", ("In the Last Place of the World") became classics of the popular music in Mexico, as well as Central and South America with hits such as "La Cima del Cielo", ("The Top of the World") "Me Va a Extrañar", ("I'm Going to Miss You") "Déjame Llorar" ("Let Me Mourn")and "Será". ("Will")
By 1992, Ricardo decided to go to the Spanish Caribbean with Los Hijos del Sol, ("The Children of the Sun") an album that contained songs like "Castillo Azul", ("Blue Castle") "Honda" and "Piel Adentro". ("Inside the Skin") That year, he also recorded a duet with Michelle, which was the Latin American version for the Aladdin song "A Whole New World" titled "Un Mundo Ideal".
Also in 1992, Ricardo performed in his concert at Madison Square Garden, with more than 16,000 people attending the concert. He also released singles such as ("La pequeña Venecia" "Little Venice") in which he demonstrates his immense love and appreciation towards his adoptive nation Venezuela, in which he refers to Venezuela as his country.
Ricardo Montaner was nominated for three Lo Nuestro Awards in 1993: Pop Artist of the Year, and Pop Song and Video of the Year for the single "Castillo Azul".
Although Montaner has written most of his songs he has worked closely with other great song writers in Latin America such as Pablo Manavello, Ilan Chester and Oscar Gómez. But in 1994, Ricardo Montaner wrote and produced all the songs in his album Una Mañana y un Camino, which didn't become popular until years after his release due to the lack of promotion by his new record label EMI Latin.
Ricardo released "Viene del Alma" ("Come From theSoul") in 1995, an Italian pop album. That same year he teamed up with Yolandita Monge to establish a Guinness World Record for performing 3 concerts in different cities on the same day in Puerto Rico. This was possible by taking a helicopter from stage to stage.
In 1997, Ricardo Montaner was already a well established artist in the Spanish speaking music world and began experimenting with other styles of music, without forgetting the roots that had made him so popular. Working once again with Pablo Manavello and with a new record company,Warner Music which proved to be the promoter Ricardo was expecting for. "Es Así" ( ) brought Ricardo much popularity in the United States Spanish speaking areas and allowed him to tour more than 17 countries in Latin America which made him even more popular in Spain. Songs like "La Mujer de Mi Vida", ("The Woman of My Life") "Para Llorar" ("To Morn") and "Es Así" ("Is So") became very popular.
In 1999, Ricardo recorded his best album ever with his past hits with the London Metropolitan Orchestra. This brought much success, and he sold over 1 million copies.
In 2001, with "Sueño Repetido" ("Repetative Dream") that included Bolero style song "Bésame" ("Kiss Me") arranged by Bebu Silvetti became a hit all over the world.
Ricardo also worked with Juan Carlos Calderón, Kike Santander and Silvetti which were key for him to bring his songs and popularity to another level from 2002 - 2004.
In 2003, Ricardo broke the record for the most concerts on a same tour in the theater of Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico. He sold out 18 concerts breaking his past record of 12 concerts.
In 2004, he made another album with the London Metropolitan Orchestra named "Con La London Metropolitan Orchestra Vol. 2" ("With the London Metropolitan Orchestra Vol 2") which featured his latest hits songs and two exclusive songs such as "Desesperado" and "Esta Escrito". ("Is Written").
In 2005, Montaner launched "Todo y Nada" ("Everything and Nothing") which featured the songs "Cuando a mi Lado Estas" and "Nada". ("Nothing").
For this album Ricardo was nominated for the Latin Grammys with album and song of the year for "Cuando a mi Lado Estas". "Amarte es mi Pecado"("Love is My Sin") and "Heridas de Amor" ("Wounds of Love") were chosen to be the theme songs on two very popular Mexican soap operas and also became popular.
In 2007, Ricardo released Las Mejores Canciones Del Mundo produced by Adrian Posse with the songs "Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti", "Nostalgias ("Nostalgia)", "Échame A Mí La Culpa" ("Give M the Blame").
In 2008, he released Las Mejores Canciones Del Mundo II - Y Algunas Mías...! with the songs "Cuando Un Amigo Se Va" (When a Friend Leaves"), "Ansiedad" ("Anxious"), "Bésame" ("Kiss Me") with Pasión Vega.
Montaner's newest single "Convénceme" ("Convince Me") is on iTunes and on the radio. His new album "Viajero Frecuente" ("Frequent Traveler"), became available on October 16, 2012 on iTunes and other stores.
 
Ricardo Montaner has sold over 22 million albums, and keeps breaking records in arenas and theaters all over the world. The last concert that he did in Mar del Plata, Argentina had 220,000 people.
Montaner has started a tour named: "Viajero Frecuente Tour 2013" in Mexico on January 24, 2013.
