Yes, I'm going to start this article with the statement that this list is missing an album, Chayanne's 2010 release "No Hay Imposibles" should be among this list of nominees. It baffles my mind once again as to how the best album release of the entire qualifying year failed to make the cut. Bariloche wrote an incredibly tactful article addressing this unwelcome phenomena. So I won't go over the territory again. With that said we wish all of the nominees well.

Se confunde mi mente una vez más de cómo la liberación de mejor álbum del año entero de calificación no hacer el corte. Bariloche, escribió un artículo muy discreto frente a este fenómeno indeseable. So who do I think the front runners are going to be? Calle 13, Enrique Iglesis, and Shakira. To Start, Calle 13 garnered a record 10 Latin Grammy nominations in all of the major categories. Enrique has been dominating the charts since the July 2010 release of "Euphoria" . Out of 10 songs, The chart topping "Euphoria" contained six duets with artists that were all from various genres (Latin, Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B) does the formula sound familiar? Shakira's "Sale El Sol" has record sales that speak for themselves.

My pick for the Latin Grammy Album of the year is going to go to Shakira. To top off Shakira's nominations, she will be receiving an incredible honor from the academy. Shakira will be receiving honors for her contribution to music and charity work.   In my opinion Shakira brings much more than her music, but we'll have to tune in to the Latin Grammy Ceremony to see if I'm right.

Mi elección para el Álbum de Latin Grammy de este año se va a ir a Shakira. Para colmo de nominaciones de Shakira, ella va a recibir un gran honor de la academia. Shakira va a recibir honores por su contribución a la música y obras de caridad. En mi opinión Shakira trae mucho más de su música, pero vamos a tener que sintonizar la ceremonia de los Grammy Latino para ver si estoy en lo cierto.

Latin Grammy Record of the Year Nominees - Who is your favorite?

The nominations for the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards were announced on September 14th at a press conference attended by national and international media at the Avalon in Hollywood, Calif. This event was also streamed live on LatinGRAMMY.com.

This year's Latin Grammy Awards will be aired on November 10th from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The broadcast will be live on Univision Network from 8–11 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).

The Latin Grammys have been bringing together the Latin music community from all areas of the world for more than 10 years now. These awards recognize the excellence and impact that the Latin music has throughout the world. I am sure all of you are looking forward to another year of celebrating the very best of Latin music and let's hope our favorite artists are chosen as the winners. In this blog I am covering the incredible nominees of "Record of the Year".

Franco De Vita con Alejandra Guzmán.



The song "Tan Solo Tú" that plays duet with Alejandra Guzman served to present their upcoming album "Franco de Vita in the front row." This work was released in a special edition CD / DVD which was released in mid-2011, and is part of a series of Sony Music highlighting live performances by the greatest artists in Latin music in front of a select public and in private. So their fans can find songs like 'I love you', 'A good loser', 'And you're going' and 'Louis', among others. This production includes guest stars of Spanish music such as Gilberto Santa Rosa ('I see you come alone'), Leonel Garcia and Noel Schajris-Sin Bandera-('If you see'), Debbie Nova ('If you mean Goodbye '), James Cruz ("Warm and cold') and Soledad ('not forgotten').

Calle 13 released their video "Latin America" ​​as part of their album "Hands All Over." This song has a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Song of the year, this is just one of the ten Latin Grammy awards this Puerto Rican duo is nominated this year. Video was directed by Jorge Carmona and Milovan Radovic and produced by Alejandro Noriega. The video begins with a live performance at a radio station in the Andes. With beautiful views of the region of Latin America.

The chorus is beautifully sung by Latin folk singers such as Toto La Momposina, Susana Baca and Maria Rita. The song recalls on various issues and struggles that Latin America continues to have, also refers to Operation Condor, a campaign that was responsible for thousands of deaths in South America. The song also focuses on the fact that the most important things in life can not be bought.

In April of this year the Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi released this his single "Scream", the first track from their new album "Mainland". "Shout" is a question of struggle against adversity, courage and oriented in the positive direction of how freedom makes you feel," said the singer in a telephone interview with Notimex. The production continues the positive message of other tunes as "I do not give up" from his previous album "Words of Silence", which was voted the song of the decade of Billboard.

Fonsi admitted that "he doesn't know if he will ever obtain the same success with another song as he did with this one", " but said it will build momentum for people to learn more songs and "that this relationship with the audience keeps growing and cultivating." "Shout" was written by Claudia Brant Fonsi and produced by Armando Avila and mixed by Sebastian Krys, the team with which Fonsi has achieved some of his biggest hits.

Los Tigres Del Norte, Feat. Paulina Rubio



"Los Tigres del Norte and their friends" is an album which was recorded live by Los Tigres and many Mexican artists. Released by Fonovisa Records on May 24, 2011, and recorded before a live audience at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California on February 8, 2011. The album includes performances offered by Juanes, Paulina Rubio, Andrés Calamaro, Diego Torres, Zack de la Rocha, and Calle 13. The album reached number one on the albums chart in Mexico and at number three on the Billboard Top Latin Albums in the U.S.

To promote the album, Los Tigres del Norte released "Blows to the Heart", first included on his album "The Example" (1995), and re-recorded for the live album with fellow Mexican singer Paulina Rubio. The only track on the Billboard Regional Mexican songs and Top Latin Songs, surveys, and received a Latin Grammy nomination for Record of the Year.

"Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tú" is a song by Puerto Rican artist Ricky Martin, the first single from his ninth album called Music + Soul + Sex. This song was released on November 2, 2010 on iTunes. Ricky Martin sings the English version with Joss Stone and the Spanish version is sung accompanied by Natalia Jimenez. Ricky also sings this song northern style with Jenni Rivera. And in Germany and Austria "The Best Thing About Me is You" is sung by Ricky and Edita. Ricky also released an album this year with his all time best songs and this beautiful song was included on it.

All of this nominees are spectacular artists and performers. So tune in on November 10th to see who the lucky winner is.

Luis Fonsi having the time of his life, both professional and personal!

Luis Fonsi will be joining a very prestigious list of singers who have interpreted the U.S. National Anthem at a sporting event. Fonsi has been invited to sing the National Anthem this coming Sunday as the Miami Dolphins face the Houston Texans. The Puerto Rican will be singing at the multi-sport Sun Life Stadium located north of Miami, Florida.

Luis Fonsi is hoping that his nerves don't get the best of him as he does not want to mess up the lyrics to such an important anthem. In the past some other artists have changed the lyrics and even the tone and rhythm of the song. Luis Fonsi continues to feast on his nominations for a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year thanks to his song "Gritar" (Shout), included in his latest album "Tierra Firme" (Firm Ground).


The Puerto Rican singer who awaits the arrival of his first child, received the news about his nomination while in a concert in Venezuela, and this is what he had to say about the nomination to the Latin Grammys, "I feel very honored, thanks!!!! "Gritar" (Shout) became a smash hit since its launch and was placed in the top positions in the charts in the U.S., Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico, as per a detailed press release.

While Fonsi waits for the Latin Grammy's which will air November 10th, he will continue his tour throughout Latin America and in November he will be visiting several cities in Venezuela. Best of luck Luis Fonsi!!!!

Last month Juanes surprised us all when we heard the news that he was taking a break from music and cancelled three concerts in the US. He suspended his tour in Latin America and also broke ties with his long time manager Fernan. All of this came as a shock to his fans who received this unexpected message via Twitter.

Juanes said: “Of course I am not retiring from music, that would never happen. I have simply decided to take a small break to spend time with my family”. This was the message that Juanes tweeted, followed by other messages explaining what is happening with his professional career. Even though it is not clear as to why he made this decision, Juanes said this to his fans” “I am tweeting you from the studio, I am making music every day, I only need some time to reflect and peace to move forward.” He then said that he had cancelled three concerts in the US but will still perform in Spain in the month of July and will tour Latin America “later on with more assertiveness” even though there is not set date yet. He also said: “My professional relationship with Fernan (his manager) has come to an end, and it is not true that I will go into politics, that is such a joke”. He concluded by saying: “It is true that I lived very difficult moments with this album, it is false that this was my only reason though. Fatigue brings all types of consequences. For all the love and respect that I have for my fans I will tell you one thing that is very true…I love you very much!”

Juanes has a very strong and established career as a musician and his fans support him with every decision he makes. He has sold over thirteen million albums , won seventeen Grammys and received the BMI President’s Award at the 2010 BMI Latin Awards. Not only is he a well known musician but he is also known for his humanitarian work, especially with aid for Colombian victims of anti-personnel mines. In 2006, Juanes performed before the European Parliament as part of a campaign to increase awareness against the use of land mines around the world, including in his native Colombia.

In 2008, Juanes organized a free concert as a response to the 2008 Andean Diplomatic crisis which took place on the Colombia-Venezuela border. In 2009, Juanes held his second "Peace Without Borders" concert in Havana which featured artists from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Juanes made a very powerful statement following this concert “"Going to Cuba is a symbol that it’s time to change people’s minds, an opportunity to tell the world that people have to change."

Juanes is nominated for two Premios Juventud this year – Super Tour and My Favorite Rock Artist. As I said before, Juanes’ fans are very supportive and have been there for him throughout his career. I know that they have voted their hearts out and will all be watching Premios Juventud as Juanes will most probably walk away with an award. Is he one of your favorites? On recording as a solo artist instead of as a lead singer
“Honestly, there wasn’t much of a difference. The only thing was I got more involved with the details. I spent more time in the studio, I was there during the production, I chose my own producer — Emilio Estefan, I chose pretty much everything myself. I did that stuff before, but back then I had to talk it over with the rest of the group and see what they thought. It was almost like we all had to get each other’s permission. But I don’t have to ask permission anymore and it’s really great. I’ve pretty much done whatever I wanted!

“I felt very liberated while making this album. In fact, there were songs I recorded that I didn’t like afterwards, so I took them out and replaced them with new songs later. I wrote 15 or 20 songs for this album, but only ended up using about seven or eight of them. The songs on the album that aren’t mine were originally written in English, but I translated them into Spanish, so it’s as if they’re partly mine, too.”

Daddy Yankee Nominated for Favorite Urban Artist in Premios Juventud

2005 marked a very special year for Daddy Yankee and his reggaeton music. On February of this year he won a Premio Lo Nuestro for his production "Barrio Fino" which won the Album of the Year in the urban category. His interpretation of his musical success Gasolina was praised by millions of people that night. A few months later, on April 28th to be exact, he also won a Billboard Latin Music Award for the same album, Barrio Fino, for Reggaeton Album of the Year. Daddy Yankee captivated his fans and audience that night as he sang a medley of his songs which included "Lo Que Paso, Paso" (What happened, happened) and "Gasolina" (Gasoline) accompanied by no other than P. Diddy.

The theme "Gasoline" was nominated for the MTV Music Awards and won a Latin Grammy later that same year as well as receiving the most nominations for Premios Juventud. Didn't I tell you that 2005 was a very special year for Daddy Yankee? And last but not least, he was nominated by the young Latino community as "Godfather of Youth" of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, where more than 2 million people participated.

His album Barrio Fino has crossed cultural and international borders, and has occupied prominent positions in the album charts around the world. This production was also supported with tours throughout Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, which have won thousands of fans in each region visited and interviews in major media.

In 2007 his album "El Cartel: The Big Boss came out and included great talent in music such as Will.I.am, The Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Scott Torch, Luny Tunes and Gocho. In 2008 we had the opportunity to discover yet another one of Daddy Yankee's talents - acting! He introduced his film "Talento de Barrio", where in addition to acting he also served as producer. This material was premiered at the International Latino Film Festival in New York. This film reached record ticket sales in just one day. In 2009 he won the award for Best Video of the Year for his song "Pose".

Daddy Yankee has become known as a leader and role model in his community, as in his genre. He has earned the support and respect of both the Puerto Rican people and the international public. His success, dedication and passion for music will guarantee a bright future for this talented exponent of reggaeton.

Daddy Yankee is nominated for Premios Juventud in the category of My Favorite Urban Artist. Will he take home the award again this? Well, we just have to wait and see if his fans came through for him once again - I have a feeling they did!

Gerardo Ortiz' Very First Nomination for Premios Juventud

In the past months, Gerardo Ortiz has rocked the world of Mexican regional music not only with his innovative musical ideas and lyrics but also by imposing a fad among youth. This musical phenomenon born in Los Angeles and raised in Sinaloa is taking the entire music industry by storm. He's had presentations all over the United States and Mexico. Recently he led the impressive concert "Corrido Invasion III" at the Gibson Amphitheatre with an incredible full house.

His charisma and popularity has generated millions of hits on YouTube. Many artists have agreed to collaborate with this great artist such as La Banda El Recodo, which Gerardo Ortiz invited to participate in his latest music video.

Similarly, his talent as a composer has been recognized by major artists like La Arrolladora Banda El Limon, Banda MS and Lupillo Rivera, who recorded several of his songs. It seems that Gerardo Ortiz is a phenomenon of great magnitude in his genre and he has revolutionized the music and trends among young people. He is nominated for two categories, "Regional Mexican Artist" and "The Voice of the Times".
